Internship Program
Location: Los Angeles, CA (Must be able to work from LA office)
GOOD seeks dynamic, ambitious interns in Los Angeles.
We’re looking for a few people who are generally cooperative, amicable, and sharp to help us around the GOOD office. Skills are a bonus. Each applicant must be a current student enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited university. The internship is unpaid; school credit is available. Interns should be able to commit 12 to 20 hours per week, on average. The exact dates of the internship will depend on each student’s availability, but please apply for one of the four terms below.
- Fall Internship: August/September - December; apply by August 31
- Winter Internship: January - March; apply by December 1
- Spring Internship: April - June; apply by March 15
- Summer Internship: May/June - August/September; apply by June 15
Each GOOD Intern will be working with a specific department as well as helping to keep the company running. General operational duties include helping answer phone calls, prepare mailings, run errands, and compile research. The responsibilities within each department are described below.

Grants Program Internship
Responsibilities:
- Research community resources to assist with special project submissions
- Assist Grants Coordinators with outreach to appropriate organizations and/or contacts
- Assist entire Project team with meeting deadlines
- Work with Project team to help coordinate and manage day-to-day tasks
- Assist in the management of Grant Winner project submissions
Background / Skills:
- Strong communications skills: Presentation, Written, and Listening
- Organized
- Proficient in Word, Excel and Powerpoint
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities on an ongoing basis
- Familiar with social action websites
Communications/PR Internship
Responsibilities
- Build local and national media contact lists
- Work with GOOD PR to support and maximize press opportunities
- Track and document media coverage on a daily basis
- Manage alerts and create weekly/monthly digests
- Manage and update GOOD News/Press page, including links, highlights, press releases
Background / Skills
- Solid writing and communication skills
- Ability to work quickly and on deadline
- Interest or background in communications/PR
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong research skills
Special Projects Editorial Internship
Responsibilities:
- Editorial research, copy editing and fact checking
- Online promotion of Project stories
- Managing content-share agreements
- Basic administrative duties – phones, mailings, errands
Background / Skills:
- Interest in current events, print and online media
- Interest in community organizing, and turning great ideas into action
- Strong writing & copyediting skills
- Experience: Photoshop, WordPress, FinalCut Pro (ideal but not necessary)
Video Production Internship
Responsibilities:
- Organize and maintain online video assets.
- Manage camera/video storage and usage.
- Assist editors with picture editing workflow
- Online/mastering of series shows
- Manage music library
- Participate in brainstorming sessions with editors and directors
- Work with other departments to ensure congruency in research and delivery.
Background/Skills:
- Experience with Final Cut Pro Studio
- Experience with Adobe products (Photoshop, After Effects) is a plus.
- Strong interest in film/video editing
- Digital design skills

New Media / Business Development Internship
Responsibilities:
- Research latest trends and developments in the digital space (websites, applications, video, social networks, etc)
- Assist in vetting and evaluating potential new media partnerships
- Work with product team to help coordinate and manage day-to-day tasks with our developers
- Work closely with other internal teams to organize and communicate digital needs to broader new media team
- Generate reports and presentations dealing with traffic, partnerships, video streams, and new developments
- Working with video and editorial teams to ensure delivery of content to syndication partners
Background / Skills:
- Analytical background
- Excel and Powerpoint savvy
- Strong interest in online content, new media, digital distribution, and applications
- Website and/or online video technical knowledge and experience preferable
- Ability to work with various stakeholders to gather information and merge together
Product Internship
Responsibilities:
- Identify bugs and areas for improvement on the website
- Mapping out the plan for developing from concept to realized product
- Work with design team to mock up product specifications for use by development team
- Work with development team to adjust requirements based on technical limitations and changing circumstances
- Research and report on latest trends and developments in the digital space (websites, applications, video, social networks, advertising, etc.)
- Participate in brainstorming sessions with the Corporate Partnerships and Editorial teams
- Confirm all product requirements have been met after development and document discrepancies
Background / Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical stakeholders
- Strong interest in open source technologies, web technologies, online media and distribution
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills; strong research skills

- Interest in project management and software development
Engineering Internship
Responsibilities:
- Develop technical plans and solutions under the guidance of senior engineers
- Participate in software design discussions
- Hands-on development of dynamic modules and pages on the web site
- Development of front-end (HTML, CSS, JS) or back-end (PHP, scripts, database) code modules
- Examine and document 3rd party APIs and solutions for use in the GOOD web site (i.e. DIGG, Facebook Connect)
- Assist in setting up and maintaining web server and database infrastructure
- Write testing scripts and conduct QA tasks
- Maintain technical documents
- Assist in day-to-day maintenance of the site
- Perform adhoc database queries and maintenance
- Participate in brainstorming sessions with the Corporate Partnerships and Editorial teams
Background / Skills:
- Computer science majors and minors preferred
- Experience in web development over applications development preferred
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical stakeholders

Illustration Internship
Responsibilities:
- Photographing and drawing for various projects
- Assisting the creative department with day-to-day tasks
- Assist in the conception and execution of projects across several mediums, including but not limited to: print, web, video, and environmental
Background / Skills:
- Candidate must work well independently
- Sharp eye for detail
- Strong composition skills
- Ability to sketch ideas quickly
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

Editorial Internship
Responsibilities:
- Assisting in reading, filtering, and responding to submissions as well as other emails and letters
- Moderating comments on the GOOD website
- Basic administrative duties – phones, mailings, errands
- Filing, scanning, organizing important contracts and accounting documents
- Editorial research, copy editing and fact checking for print and web
- Finding places to promote/send GOOD pieces online
- Uploading GOOD content to the site
Background / Skills:
- Interest in current events, print and online media
- Strong writing & copyediting skills
- Photoshop and HTML experience
- Blogging & CMS background useful
- FinalCutPro versed a plus
Social Media Internship
Responsibilities:
- Update GOOD's various online profiles - YouTube/Facebook/Myspace, grow fans/friends/followers
- Assist in blog outreach
- Research best online practices and trends
- Help manage GOOD's online community
- Actively participate in and initiate conversations on GOOD.is
Background / Skills:
- Interest or background in communications and social media
- Experience with social media
- Word & excel savvy

Corporate Partnerships Internship
Responsibilities:
- Mailings to clients and agencies
- Filing completed paperwork
- Internal coordinating between team members and cross-function groups
- Research on target brands and campaigns
- Reporting and tracking of online campaigns
- Execution of signed sales deals in print, online, and events
- General sales and marketing administrative work – some interaction with clients
- Identification and outreach to prospective clients that are a good brand fit
- Management and organization of client management system (CRM)
- Preparation and organization of sales materials for meetings and presentations
Background / Skills:
- Organized
- Ambitious self-starter
- Can take direction well and anticipate needs
- Creative

- Experience with Creative Suite and Photoshop

across several mediums including, but not limited to: print, web,
video, and environmental
- Assist with posters, invites, banners, illustrations, and window displays

- Designing for company projects including the monthly internal newsletter
Background / Skills:
- Strong design and typography skills
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
- HTML experience a plus
- Preferred majors: Graphic Design and Illustration
- Prior design and publishing experience is helpful but not required
- Interest in editorial design, current events, print and online media
