If there’s one thing we’re really good at in 2025, it’s giving specific phenomena a catchy, viral name. It\u2019s funny how once a sort of abstract experience gets a name attached to it<\/a>, it suddenly becomes much easier to understand and relate to. The Internet\u2014and primarily TikTok<\/u><\/a>\u2014has been great for that. Sure, things get out of hand quite easily (like the overuse of \u201ctherapy speak<\/u><\/a>\u201d), but there has also been quite a lot of validation and meaningful conversations that have spawned from these overnight buzzwords.<\/p>

Case and point: \u201cGramnesia<\/u><\/a>.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cGramnesia,\u201d which combines the words \u201cgrandparent\u201d and \u201camnesia,\u201d has been popping up on Reddit discussions <\/u><\/a>for a while now, though the coiner of the term seems unknown. But only recently has it been really gaining traction.<\/p>

Back in June of 2024, Maryland-based therapist and mom Allie McQuaid<\/u><\/a>, really brought \u201cgramnesia\u201d to the forefront of the conversation when she made an Instagram video all about it.<\/p>

\u201cI just heard this term called \u2018gramnesia\u2019 when grandparents forget what it\u2019s really like having young kids and I can\u2019t stop thinking about how accurate it is,\u201d she said in the clip.<\/p>

In her caption, McQuaid shared how so many of her clients would get \u201cslammed\u201d by their parents about how different (i.e. \u201ceasier\u201d) raising kids was for them whenever they brought their own children around.<\/p>\n
