Once upon a time, our only option for getting clothes clean<\/a> was to get out a bucket of soapy water and start scrubbing. Nowadays, we use fancy machines<\/a> that not only do the labor for us, but give us free reign to choose between endless water temperature<\/a>, wash duration, and spin speed combinations.<\/p>

Of course, here\u2019s where the paradox of choice comes in. Suddenly you\u2019re second guessing whether that lace item needs to use the \u201cdelicates\u201d cycle, or the \u201chand wash\u201d one, or what exactly merits a \u201cpermanent press\u201d cycle. And now, you\u2019re wishing for that bygone bucket just to take away the mental rigamarole.<\/p>

Well, you\u2019re in luck. Turns out there\u2019s only one setting you actually need. At least according to one laundry<\/a> expert.<\/p>

<\/span>While appearing on HuffPost\u2019s \u201cAm I Doing It Wrong?\u201d<\/a> podcast, Patric Richardson, aka The Laundry Evangelist<\/a>, said he swears by the \u201cexpress\u201d cycle, as \u201cit\u2019s long enough to get your clothes clean but it\u2019s short enough not to cause any damage.\u201d<\/p>

Richardson\u2019s reasoning is founded in research done while writing his book, \u201cLaundry Love,\u201d<\/a> which showed that even the dirtiest items would be cleaned in the “express” cycle, aka the \u201cquick wash\u201d or \u201c30 minute setting.\u201d Furthermore the laundry expert, who\u2019s also the host of HGTV\u2019s \u201cLaundry Guy,\u201d<\/a> warned that longer wash settings only cause more wear and tear, plus use up more water and power, making express wash a much more sustainable choice.<\/p>\n
